Overview

The Sustainability program equips students with the skills needed to address sustainability challenges, fostering the skills and knowledge needed for innovative solutions for a greener future. Graduates can pursue dynamic careers in fields that make a tangible impact on the world including, but not limited to, environmental education and outreach, community design, renewable energy, sustainable business practices, and environmental policy.
The mission of the Sustainability program is to offer an integrative, interdisciplinary approach that prepares students to address the challenges and ethical responsibilities of sustainable development. Students explore the theory and practice of sustainability in a number of different disciplines, including, but not limited to, environmental science, business, ethics, economics, and sociology. Through community-engaged experiences, we connect students to organizations (for-profit, nonprofit, and government) that address the pressing environmental issues of our time, providing students with an opportunity for real-world experiences and skills for their future.
The Division of Life Sciences at St. John Fisher University is committed to academic excellence and creating an environment where everyone, from any background, can do their best work. We will achieve this by working collaboratively to create student-centered and inclusive learning environments that encourage resilience and reflection. We believe in the importance of mentorship and our responsibility to serve as guides supporting our students as they discover their own paths. We will provide agency to develop students who are self-directed learners and leaders, in and out of the classroom. We will model being global citizens by demonstrating and teaching social, environmental, and professional responsibility.
