Theory, Investigation, and Practical Application

Through coursework and applied learning, students develop the ability to assess human needs, design service plans, and advocate for equitable access to care. Program learning outcomes emphasize cultural competence, ethical decision-making, interdisciplinary problem-solving, and systems-level thinking. Whether working directly with clients, supporting organizational development, or pursuing graduate study, graduates are equipped to engage in meaningful, change-oriented work that enhances the quality of life for individuals, families, and communities.

Geared for Direct Service

Graduates of the Human Services program may pursue careers in a variety of fields including social services, mental health and counseling support, nonprofit and community organizations, educational settings, healthcare, public agencies, gerontology, and human resources. They are prepared for roles such as case managers, behavioral health technicians, program coordinators, family advocates, and public health educators. Students may continue their education in graduate programs such as social work, counseling, public health, or public administration.

The program’s design reflects a collaborative and interdisciplinary process involving faculty from psychology, sociology, anthropology, and public health. This interdisciplinary approach enriches the curriculum and models the collaborative spirit essential to work in human services.

In alignment with St. John Fisher University’s mission, the BS in Human Services cultivates ethical leaders and practitioners who are deeply attuned to the structural and cultural dynamics shaping the human experience. Through rigorous academic training and a sustained commitment to service, students are prepared to advocate for dignity, access, and justice within and beyond their communities.
