Arlette Miller Smith (English), Program Director

The minor in African American (AFAM) studies offers a multidisciplinary perspective on African American life, history, and culture. The minor includes courses that address political, cultural, literary, and economic issues critical to people of African descent, particularly those living in the United States. The minor provides a comprehensive liberal arts education that includes a scholarly perspective on the history and achievements of African Americans, while also encouraging students to be positive and productive citizens of a transnational world.
